The Cancer Machine

by Stephen Petteruti

A medical student discovers a cure for cancer, but if he wants to share it with the world, he will have to dodge assassins, corrupt executives, and the long arm of the pharmaceutical industry. Anton Thresher has gone against his father’s wishes and enrolled in an offbeat Maine college. Even though he rejected his legacy at Harvard Medical School, Anton still wants to use medicine to better people’s lives. With the help of his roommate, Todd, and the lovely but lonely Lisa, Anton begins experimenting with a mysterious substance and soon makes a discovery that could benefit all of humanity. As Anton looks for a way to publicize his discovery, he learns that even a cure for cancer can’t heal the rot that has swallowed so many scientific institutions. Will Anton and his friends survive? Or will his work be destroyed to protect the wealth of the health-care colossus?
